I wrote this song for a friend of mine who died too young. We spent many summers together in the woods, on the rivers, driving in smelly, 15 passenger vans. Our relationship was rocky, we fought a lot, and I was intimidated as hell by him.
I wish we could have been there for him when he needed it most. This song, and the entire "Nocturnal Among Us", is dedicated to him, and the rest of the kids from Team Adventure.
So Long, Summertime
You’d be thinking your luck
was changing at last
you’d be knowing the sky
was gonna turn black
and let your secrets rain on down
you’d be wishing that you were living a lie
instead of living out this truth
this truth, your youth
but you don’t have to say you’re sorry
not to me and not to anyone else
and you don’t have to live you life out
like the story that we both know so well
so long, summertime
and you didn’t know up from down
and you didn’t know right from wrong
and you cannot undo what’s been done.
when you call me I swear I’ll be home
when you call me I’ll pick up the phone
this time, so long, summertime
